[Social Media Growth - July 2023] My first viral video

If you’re new here, you might want to read the June update and the background of this project!

🎉 July’s highlight: I have my first viral video on Instagram (416K views as of this writing)! 🎉

My niches

  • Relationships

  • Personal Growth

  • Intentional Living

Where I’m posting

  • Instagram: 2111 followers (up 256% from 592 followers)

  • TikTok: 346 followers (up 72% from 201 followers)

  • Youtube: 591 followers (up 7% from 545 followers)

Frequency of posting

  • At least daily on Instagram and Tiktok

  • Less frequent on Youtube

Things I’ve learned this month

  1. Consistency is key. I think because I post daily, Instagram has pushed my videos to more people. My target audience also seems to align with Instagram better than TikTok.

  2. Posting every day has become a lot easier now. When I don’t have time, I just do text-on-screen videos.

  3. Remember last month I said I wanted to do more talking videos with greenscreen? I did it! They performed relatively ok (around 1K views) on TikTok. If the videos are longer than 1 minute, they’re better for Tiktok but not Instagram. Talking videos can work on Instagram but they have to be short. Instagram doesn’t allow longer than 1.5-minute videos. It does take a lot longer to produce but this type of video is good for building the brand and connection with viewers as they can see me. Now I need to be better at delivery!

  4. After 1.5 months of posting every day, I’ve had my first viral video on Instagram. It’s super exciting! My Instagram stats are blowing up (for a new account.) I’m very happy this video is the one that went viral because it sums up my story very well. Right now, it has over 416K views.

  5. The same video only had around 30K views on TikTok and 6K views on Youtube - strange! I think Instagram figured out the right audience for this video and distributed it accordingly.

  6. It’s all about retention! My theory based on my stats is that the longer the video can keep a viewer’s attention, the more it will be shared! (I suppose this is unsurprising!)

  7. Now that I have more stats, I can analyse my content and audience better. I love getting comments and questions because now I have a library of content ideas that I know people actually want to see.

  8. I’m still figuring it all out, to be honest. In August, my goal is to come up with a video style or a signature series to build my brand. What would scream “Ellen Nguyen”?

  9. I want to focus more on storytelling and creating hooks while being creative.

  10. More views on Instagram mean more views on my website LovefulMind.com. But more on this later!

See you next month!
